This office has been appointed to represent a child in a pending guardianship. If you are a parent or proposed guardian, you will need to contact our office immediately to schedule appointments. Please call 209.580-4540.
We will conduct at least one confidential interview of the child. This could take place in our office, located at 515 W. Main St. #303, at the child’s school or daycare, in your home, or any other place that we deem appropriate. Please do not question the child about what is discussed in the interview.
We will also interview parents and proposed guardians. It is your responsibility to contact this office for your appointment. Your interview will NOT be confidential. If you are represented by an attorney, we must have your attorney’s permission to interview you. Please provide our office with copies of any documents that you would like us to review. Please do not bring additional people for us to interview to your appointment. You may provide us with names of potential witnesses and we will make the determination of whether or not to interview your witnesses.
We will prepare a report and recommendation to the Court regarding the Guardianship. If you do not agree with our recommendation or that of the Court Investigator, you may schedule the matter for a Contested Hearing/Trial. Please remember to subpoena any witnesses that you may want to testify. If you need assistance in preparing your subpoenas or any other documents, you can seek the assistance of an attorney or the Self-Help Center, located in the Merced County Superior Court.
THE COURT MAY ORDER YOU TO PAY ALL OR PART OF THE MINORS COUNSEL FEES
